From Sept. 30th – Oct. 4th, we’re collecting old FCUSA soccer uniforms, cleats, shinguards and sending them to former FCUSA Coastal Girls Director Emma Hankins in Indonesia so she can give them to local children. We will have collection boxes at the Hanover U and Duxplex during practice sessions to collect items people would like to donate.
Check out a video and message from Emma below, as well as the link to her GoFundMe page!
“After spending a few weeks in the jungle at Bukit Lawang and Batu Kapal in Sumatra, Indonesia; I learned that there are no organized sports available for the kids.
Through volunteering with Batu Kapal Conservation, (https://batukapalconservation.com/) I visited 2 schools and saw firsthand the limited resources but amazing spirit of the people here, especially the kids!
Soccer is incredibly popular here and is a great way to improve quality of life, bring the community together, and teach the kids important life skills including Teamwork, Integrity, Respect and Commitment.
Through working with Batu Kapal Conservation and FCUSA, our goal is to:
– Donate uniform and equipment to the kids and schools
– Set up a regular soccer program where the kids have access to coaches/ role models, get to learn to play, build confidence and belong to a team.
I will be going back to the jungle (date TBC) to run a football festival to kick off the project. This will be the first chance for the kids to play games wearing their uniform, in their team with support from their coach!
I will also spend time with the coaches, providing curriculum and ideas to help get them set up to run a quality program for their teams!!
$ raised through this page will cover the costs of shipping uniform and equipment to the jungle, transporting the kids to the festival and any other costs that may arise.
Thank you you for your support!!”
